...developing cyber security, digital & computer forensics expert for the nation

2 The CFIN’s Chartered Computer Forensics Examiners certification is a result of our desire to:

  • Professionalize and further the field and science of digital and computer forensics.
  • Provide a fair, uncompromised process for certifying the competency of digital and computer forensics examiners
  • To set high forensics and ethical standards for digital and computer forensics examiners
  • To provide a recognized, unblemished international standard certification that is available to all who can qualify.
  • Conduct research and development into new and emerging technologies and methods in the field and science of computer forensics

The CFIN certification is available to both law enforcement and non-law enforcement individuals who have no criminal record and who have the appropriate training, experience or are self taught.   A security clearance may be required.

All applicants will be treated equally. There is no granting of CFIN certification without being properly tested and evaluated by CFIN Certification Board.  All prospective members must meet the same certification requirements and all must successfully complete the examination process, and exemption may be granted by CFIN on educational and professional experience basis.

In order to complete CFIN’s Chartered Computer Forensics Examiners certification process, the applicant must:

THE CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION
3
The initial Chartered Computer Forensics Examiner process consists of a multiple choice question and answer examination, the forensics examination of a floppy diskette, the forensics examination of a CDR disk, the forensics examination of ethical hacking/penetration testing and the forensics examination of an image of a hard disk drive .  An 80% or better average score is required to complete the process.  Once the written examinations have been completed, the applicant can then begin the forensics examination of the test media.  The forensics examinations are designed to test the forensics knowledge and skills of the candidate.

The candidate must have the appropriate tools. CFIN will make available to registered candidates a list of appropriate tools.

The primary purpose of this certification is to measure if the applicant understands and uses sound evidence handling and storage procedures and follows sound forensics examinations procedures when conducting examinations.

There are reasonable technical issues that must be resolved in order to recover the evidentiary data.  However, most of the grade is based upon following sound evidence handling and storage procedures and following sound examination procedures, not simply recovering the data.

The Examinations will be held on Saturdays following each Boot Camp.
